J.T. Systems, Inc. designs and installs dust collection systems, product recovery, and exhaust ventilation for abrasive blasting operations, asphalt plants, the concrete aggregate industry, woodworking shops and other industrial processes. Ed Rydelek at Auburn Armature has been serving J.T. Systems, Inc. for about 15 years. JTS needed some panels for two projects earlier this year and contacted Ed to get them started. Jeff Buckley of The Buckley Group, a Sprecher + Schuh Manufacturing Representative, recently visited J.T. Systems, Inc. with Ed to see how a recent project for several control panels went.
The first control panel was for a major salt manufacturer in Utah to run a large vacuum system for salt dust. The second system was for collecting graphite dust at a major copper manufacturer. Rich Raaflaub, the project engineer at J.T. Systems, Inc. (JTS), designed and sized the control systems for the two machines.
There were some interesting features in this panel. It is a multi-starter assembly for one 75HP and two 2HP motors at 480VAC (three motors total) in a NEMA Type 4 Enclosure. For the larger motor, we used a 108-amp PCS Soft starter (PCS-108-600V). For the 2HP motors, we used two non-reversing E-Combo CLT7 3-component starters, which include a KBT7 controller, a CA7 contactor, and a CEP7 overload with side-mount reset module. The two small starters are electrically interlocked with the larger (75HP) starter, therefore the 75HP motor will not start running until the two 2HP motors have been started and are running.
