Bob Marquis, the Design and Proposal Engineer at Midwest Engineering & Automation in Wadsworth, Ohio, secured a bid to produce a panel for a Rubber Recycler customer. The panel would control an entire building expansion controlling all automation including: conveyors, sifters, grinders, seperators, clarifiers and baggers. The automation equipment handles raw materials in the form of tires and expels the tires as dust or mulch.

Bob contacted Joel ZeBranek with AM Engineered Sales, his Sprecher + Schuh Sales Representative. He needed some help in the design and a quick turnaround on the project. Joel recommended including the Wöhner Bus Bar systems for his panel. He directed Bob to utilize the online Wöhner Step-by- Step Questionnaire to provide him information quickly.

Wöhner swiftly created a CAD drawing and BOM for his project based on Bob’s provided specifications. The CAD drawing and BOM called for the following products to fit the specifications for the job. Bob assembled the system utilizing all of the bus bars recommended and saved panel space and wiring labor.

Bob Marquis of Midwest Engineering and Automation designed their control panel using 60mm busbars

Job Specifications

  1. Range of motors controlled: ½ HP to 20 HP @ 480V.
  2. (41) motors in all receive power from bus bar via 3 phase connectors
  3. Includes (24) Sprecher + Schuh Type E type motor starters and (17) Yaskawa VFD’s
  4. Additional (2) Sprecher + Schuh 100 HP soft starts.
  5. 150A MCCB is the main breaker for bus bar

Bob was able to turn around the project from beginning (specifications, quoting, designing, etc) to end (shipped panels) within one month. The Wöhner bus bar system proved to be efficient and ultimately saved costs and panel space. It’s easy-to-use online questionnaire saved time and provided quick feedback!
