An oil and gas customer in Houston, Texas had a problem. Their pump panels for outfield running oil lift pump jacks (which lift fluid up) were consistently late for delivery and received a lack of service. They turned to the Sprecher + Schuh Engineering and Production (Panel Shop) Teams for an alternative.

The Engineering Team readily went to work to redesign the panel to make it more cost effective and efficient. They also consulted with the Production Team on the best design to enable it to be built in an acceptable turnaround time.

The Engineering Team quickly converted the customer from using the Schneider Electric/ Square D Tesys System to the CEP7-ERID module due to the many benefits, including its signaling features directly on the panel door. The CEP7-ERID provides convenient up-to-date notifications on the CEP7’s status as well as easy accessibility to reset the overload relay. The compact module is Type 4/4X/12/13 IP 65/66 rated and takes very little room on the front of a panel, fitting snuggly in a standard 22mm cut-out. Plus, the CEP7-ERID Intelli-button allows you to safely identify the reason for fault condition and reset without opening the panel door and having to don the OSHA required arc flash suit.

The design team also included 8 relpol relays for fault sensing indication, circuit breaker, transformers, 120 VDC Power Supply, surge suppressors, selector switches, a KTA7-25 motor circuit controller and CA7-9 contactor and a standard D7 E-stop pilot device. The panel was designed to meet all UL508A specifications.

 
 

The customer accepted the redesign and submitted an order. The Production Team built the first order of pump panels and delivered on time. The customer was extremely pleased with the exceptional turnaround time and the one-on-one personal service during the entire process (which they were sorely lacking with their previous supplier).

Since their first order, the customer has converted their entire pump panel business dedicated for the oil field jacks to the Sprecher + Schuh Team.
