PCE/PCEC Intermittent Phase Loss
A small percentage of Frame-2 PCE/PCEC Softstarters manufactured between February 2018 and August 2020 may experience phase-loss / open-load (four flash) faults as a result of an anomaly with the internal bypass contactors.
SUMMARY:
An anomaly with the internal bypass contactors in PCE / PCEC frame-2 manufactured between February 2018 and August 2020 may cause intermittent phase-loss / open load (four flash F4) faults.
DESCRIPTION:
For the below PCEC/PCE catalog numbers, the internal bypass contactor anomaly may cause intermittent tripping with a four-flash phase-loss open-load indication. This fault indication is a result of the lack of continuity through the bypass contactor to the motor and will simply cause the softstarter to fault. A PCE / PCEC fault condition de-energizes the fault contactor and therefore stops the motor. This is not a safety issue.
TEMPORARY WORKAROUND:
There is no temporary workaround. Replacement of the unit is required.
CORRECTION:
The manufacturing process for the relays was corrected. All affected products were removed from inventory. All PCEC units built as of August 2020 include relays that were manufactured after the correction to the manufacturing process.
REQUIRED CUSTOMER ACTION:
Customers that experience four flash phase-loss open-load faults in units manufactured between February 2018 and August 2020 should contact Sprecher + Schuh Technical Support, Customer Service, or your supplier if you did not purchase from Sprecher + Schuh to facilitate an RMA to return these softstarters. Sprecher + Schuh will honor warranty for units listed below.
